KAREN BAUSMAN NAMED VISITING DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR

Karen Bausman has been named Visiting Distinguished Professor at The City College School of Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture for the Spring 2009 semester.

The appointment was announced by George Ranalli, Dean.

Paralleling her architectural practice, Ms. Bausman has made substantial contributions to architectural education.  She has lectured widely on her own work as well as on theoretical topics in such venues as Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, Cornell University, the University of Southern California, the American Academy in Rome, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, among others.

Ms. Bausman has held the Eliot Noyes Chair at Harvard University and the Eero Saarinen Chair at Yale University, the only American woman to hold both distinguished national design chairs.   She was a faculty member of Columbia University’s Advanced Architectural Design Studio from 1990 to 2004.  Her applied research into biological and natural structures during this time underlies her dynamic building designs and is featured in INDEX Architecture, published by MIT Press in 2003.  In 1994 she was awarded the Rome Prize at a White House ceremony.

Ms. Bausman received her professional degree in Architecture from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1982.
